History of our Troupe
The Southern California Chinese Folk Dancers is a 501(c)3 dedicated towards teaching the art of traditional Chinese folk dancing to first, second, and third generation Chinese American girls between the ages of 4-18. The troupe is sponsored by the Orange County Chinese Cultural Club.
As a service to the greater San Gabriel Valley and Los Angeles County, the troupe is invited to perform at various community service events. Recent performances in February 2013 included the Optimist Club Chinese New Year Celebration and Chinese New Year Celebration at the STC Shopping Mall in Rowland Heights. Past performances included Disneyland Lunar Festival, Chinatown Lunar Festival, Lotus Festival in Echo Park, and Cherry Blossom Festival in Japanese Town.

Ginger Wong, Coordinator
Ginger Wong has been the Coordinator since 1996, when her daughter, Erin, was a dancer. Ginger coordinates class schedules and performances, hires teachers, and trains the teaching assistants. Ginger's talents also include designing the hairpieces and earrings worn by the dancers during performances.
Valerie Lee, Assistant Coordinator
Valerie Lee has been with the troupe since her daughter, Veronica, was a dancer. Valerie assists Ginger with troupe operations and can be seen at performances and dance classes.
Julie Cortez, Public Relations & Event Planner
Julie Cortez was one of the original dancers when the troupe was formed under the direction of Frank Que. Julie rejoined the group when her two daughters, Stephanie and Julia, began dancing. Julie keeps parents informed of upcoming performances and gatherings through our monthly newsletter.
Anne Ma, Consultant
Anne Ma has been dancing since the age of four. She graduated from the Dance Department of Taiwan Tainan Woman’s College of Art & Technology and has been teaching dance since the age of thirteen. The schools she taught at include the Experimental Dance Program of the Jing Shuay Elementary School of Tainan, Ta Chen Middle School, Tainan High School of Business and Trade, Tainan School of Nursing, Te Kuan Girls’ High School, and Chung Hwa College of Medicine.
Anne has been in charge of many major dance productions as the Stage Manager and Lighting Designer. In addition, she has also received many prestigious dance competition awards; and in 1997, she won the Outstanding Young Achiever Award of Southern California and Phoenix Dancing Award – Presented by Dance Association of Taiwan, Republic of China in 2005. Anne holds extensive stage experience. Since 1998, she has been working at Disneyland as a professional dancer. Some important roles include the Mulan Parade as Soldier Mulan and the Christmas Fantasy Parade as the Music Box Ballerina and Mulan. For many years, Anne has been very active in the dance industrial over Southern California, she has also been the artistic director and choreographer for many well-know artist from Asia, such as: Lee-Hung Wong, Phil Chang, Jenny Tseng, Wen-Yin Liang. Anne has also been involved many years and is the current Vice President of the America Chinese Dance Association. Anne is also the Artistic Director of Dance Impressions and Lan Ling Dance Studio, Southern California Chinese Folk Dancers, South Coast Chinese Culture Center and UC Irvine Chinese Association.
